    EMAIL MESSAGE TO HAMTRAMCK ONLINE:

I'd like to find out what year St. Florian's Catholic Church in Hamtranck was completed. I'm fairly certain it was in the mid-1930s, but have been unable to unearth an exact date. Please let me know, if you have access to this information.

    Thanks!

Here's what my research revealed: The cornerstone of the first church was laid on 7-12-1908. Following the explosive growth of Hamtramck along with the new auto industry, it soon proved too small to accomodate the congregation. Construction of the new church began in Jan. 1926 and it was dedicated on 10-21-28. It won the American Architect Award in 1929.

Hope this helps. ---> Studs Sczurczski, Ed.
