A tale of two cities: Hamtramck and Detroit, two communities that have faced social and fiscal downturns over the past few decades, are now on the cusp of full-scale revivals. And in both cities, new leaders who have sparked their rebirth are being challenged by political foes opposed to change. Hamtramck mayor Gary Zych faces a recall election June 8, months after fending off an earlier effort to unseat him. Meanwhile, Detroit mayor Dennis Archer fights for his political life against foes unhappy over his choice of owner-operators for the city's three new casinoes.
